Bikeboom is a traveling annual Deaf mountain biking event committed to overcoming barriers faced by the Deaf community in the outdoor recreation realm. As the largest minority group globally, people with disabilities often find themselves marginalized in the outdoor industry. Deaf individuals, specifically, encounter challenges in affording mountain bikes and connecting with ASL-friendly riding partners. Born from a profound awareness of these obstacles, Bikeboom is dedicated to creating a dynamic, inclusive community for American Sign Language (ASL) users. Through skills clinics, group rides, and networking opportunities, we empower Deaf cyclists, breaking down limitations in outdoor access and resources.
Our vision extends beyond the trails — Bikeboom is a cultural celebration, uniting outdoor enthusiasts and exemplifying the power of shared experiences. We introduce mountain biking, foster networks, build skills, and ensure accessibility with ASL interpreters during clinics. By driving growth in the Deaf mountain biking world, Bikeboom is not just an event; it’s a movement towards a more inclusive and vibrant future for all through the joys of cycling.
2024 Recap:
The 3rd Annual Bikeboom in Grand Valley brought together over 100 registrants from _ states for three beautiful days of mountain biking in west Colorado. Over the weekend, our tough and gritty riders came together for good times at Camp Eddy, commuted in our buses and vans, and rode at five different trail systems. We had special appearances from two of our sponsors, the Colorado Association of the Deaf and Sorenson. Along with these two, we had 15 other amazing sponsors local and national that helped our event turn into a success, our biggest sponsor being the local Bicycle Outfitters. We pride ourselves on continuing to be a beacon of light for Deaf/Hard of Hearing mountain riders, professionals and novices alike. We are so eager to see everyone again at our 2026 event, location/date to be announced!

2022 Recap:
The 2nd Annual Bikeboom in Bentonville, Arkansas drew over 100 registrants for 4 days of clinics, group rides, nightly gatherings, and newfound cycling partners from all over the nation. The 2022 Deaf bike festival was made possible by the local support led by Bentonville’s event coordinator Ciara Logan. The Walton Family Foundation, Ozark Outdoor Foundation and Visit Bentonville made huge contributions to the 2022 event. Which made the bike rentals free for the 2022 registrants and help with other expenses so Deaf cyclists, from first-timers to Deaflympian medalists, can converge and grow the sport within the Deaf community.
“The biggest impact is when deaf youth is exposed to experienced deaf cyclists, this breaks the language hurdle that breaks much more language barriers when it takes a village of support,” said Zachary Sisson, the former Bikeboom director.
